Laura is a Senior Associate and an experienced litigator, specialising in reputation protection including privacy and defamation work.
Laura acts for a number of corporations and individuals, protecting their reputation in the media and also the Internet, removing defamatory, private and copyrighted material already available and acting swiftly to prevent material which is threatened to be published. Laura's experience includes acting with Rachel Atkins in securing a Statement in Open Court, damages and costs on behalf of Will Smith, acting for a British Airway's pilot in securing a favourable settlement from Associated Newspapers in Tony Pollock v Associated Newspapers, a Statement in Open Court in a privacy action for Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar against the picture agency Big Pictures and various newspapers and a number of actions on behalf of Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
Prior to joining Schillings, Laura acted on behalf of Deborah Lipstadt in David Irving v Penguin Books and Deborah Lipstadt, and on behalf of Rupert Lowe in his successful defamation actions against Times Newspapers and Associated Newspapers.
