Jon Oakley

Senior Associate

Jon is a Senior Associate of the firm who specialises in protecting the reputations of blue chip companies and high profile individuals.  He is known for his highly commercial attitude when dealing with reputational issues.

Whilst many clients prefer to keep their details confidential (particularly those in the corporate sector), the breadth of Jon’s work can be illustrated by some of his previous clients which are a matter of public record, who include Tullett Prebon Plc, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Roman Abramovich.

Jon’s successes in the higher courts include the cases of ETK v News Group Newspapers Limited, ASG v GSA, Straker v Tudor Rose (Court of Appeal) and Cream Holdings Limited v Bannerjee & Ors (House of Lords).  In November 2010 Jon attended the European Court of Human Rights in connection with an application brought by Princess Caroline of Monaco.

In addition to trial work, Jon regularly deals with emergency applications to the court to obtain  pre-publication injunctions, often at very short notice.

Jon is seeing an increasing amount of his work emanate from his relationships with corporate entities who find themselves, their shareholders and their directors under media scrutiny.  Jon often advises companies on how they and their Senior Executives can be most effectively protected from the risks of coming under such scrutiny, often working with clients on an ongoing basis to minimise the risk of reputational damage and its subsequent effect on stakeholder trust.

In 2010 and 2011 Jon was invited to be part of the Working Group appointed to draft the Pre-Action Protocol for Defamation on behalf of the Civil Justice Council.  Articles by Jon have been published in numerous publications including the Law Society Gazette and In House Lawyer magazine.
