Nicolas Cage 'didn't steal a chihuahua,' admits former co-star Kathleen Turner - The Telegraph, 4 April 2008

Cage wins libel battle over 'stolen dog' - The Guardian, 4 April 2008

Actor Nicolas Cage prevailed today in his libel action arising from Kathleen Turner’s recent memoir “Send Yourself Roses.” His libel lawsuit, filed in February in London’s High Court of Justice against Kathleen Turner, her book publisher, and the publisher of London’s Daily Mail newspaper, was prompted by their false statements that Mr. Cage had been arrested twice for drunk driving and had stolen a dog.

In Court today the defendants acknowledged that there was no truth to their statements about Mr. Cage, and that he had not driven while drunk, stolen an animal, or been arrested for these reasons. The defendants will publish apologies and insert a printed correction/apology page into existing stock of Ms. Turner’s book, and have promised not to repeat the false statements in the future. The defendants will also pay all of Mr. Cage’s legal costs and will make a substantial donation to a charity designated by Mr. Cage, The National Adult Protective Services Foundation, which benefits victims of elder abuse.

Mr. Cage’s Solicitor at Schillings said today: “My client is extremely pleased with the outcome, which sets the record straight, since he has never been arrested for drunk driving, dog theft, or anything else. As an actor who stars in many family-friendly films and who has a young child and teenager of his own, Mr. Cage was understandably upset at having wrongly been depicted as condoning that sort of reckless, dangerous and criminal behavior. Mr. Cage is gratified that the defendants have done the right thing by acknowledging their errors and making amends, which Mr. Cage has directed be donated to a worthy charitable cause.”
