Singer Presley sues over article - BBC, 9 March 2008
Lisa Marie Presley, singer/songwriter and daughter of Elvis Presley, has today instructed Schillings, her solicitors, to issue a libel claim against Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail, at the High Court in London.
The legal action comes after the Daily Mail published an article this week alleging that Lisa Marie Presley was “piling on the pounds” as a result of her “unhealthy appetite” and that she was “growing just like her dad”, drawing similarities with her father, Elvis Presley. The allegations were widely republished around the world.
Lisa Marie Presley, who announced this week she was pregnant, strongly denies the allegations.
Her solicitor Simon Smith of Schillings said today: “My client is deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news.”
