A British Airways Captain, Tony Pollock, today settled his libel action against Associated Newspapers, the publishers of the Daily Mail, for an article published in the Daily Mail on 12 August 2006.

The article alleged that Captain Pollock gave a date rape drug to two stewardesses and took photographs of a sexual nature whilst they were under the influence of the drug. Proceedings for libel were commenced by Captain Pollock on 5 October 2006.  The action was set down for a three week trial commencing 1 April 2008, but in December 2007, the parties agreed to a process of mediation that has produced a successful settlement of the action. Associated Newspapers has agreed to pay Captain Pollock substantial damages and his legal costs and to publish an apology in the Daily Mail.
