UK court issues judgment for leading Ukrainian investor in libel claim against Ukrainian defendants
On 11 January 2008, judgment was entered in default against the Kiev-based internet publication OBOZREVATEL, two of its editors and a journalist. The action was commenced in June 2007 and concerned a series of highly defamatory articles about Rinat Akhmetov. The Defendants were given ample opportunity to answer the claims against them, but failed to do so.
As a result, judgment was entered in favour of Rinat Akhmetov. The matter has been set down for a compensation hearing later this year to determine the appropriate award of damages.
