The text of the apology
Rinat Akhmetov – The Kyiv Post’s Apology

The Kyiv Post published an article on 4 October 2007 entitled “Appalling Kyiv City Council Land Grab”, which made a number of false and highly defamatory allegations about Mr Akhmetov. Jed Sunden, the author of the article and the owner of KP Publications (the publisher of the Kyiv Post) has agreed to publish the following apology in the Kyiv Post and on its website.

On 4 October 2007, the Kyiv Post published an article written by Jed Sunden, entitled “Appalling Kyiv City Council Land Grab,” which included several references to Mr. Rinat Akhmetov. Specifically, the article alleged that Mr. Akhmetov had acted unlawfully in certain business transactions relating to the Dnipropenergo thermoelectric generator and the Kryvorizhstal steel mill. On closer examination, we have concluded that these allegations relating to Mr. Akhmetov were untrue and have no basis in fact.

We would like to confirm that the Dnipropenergo and Kryvorizhstal transactions complied fully with Ukrainian law, and that there was no unlawful activity on Mr. Akhmetov’s part. We apologise to Mr. Akhmetov for these misstatements and for any embarrassment that they may have caused him or his business interests.
