Chris Scott is a former journalist and City PR adviser who, like all our lawyers, specialises in reputation protection and privacy work. Chris also acts in a diverse range of commercial disputes.
Chris takes a particular interest in steps that can be taken to reduce risks to reputation and privacy before damage is caused, including dealing with online material and the media prior to publication. He has acted on a number of emergency injunctions and also acts regularly to deal sensitively and pragmatically with allegations and confidential information spreading online without recourse to the Courts.
His post-publication work includes being part of the team acting on Sheldon Adelson and Las Vegas Sand Corp’s claim against Associated Newspapers, and he has worked with Rachel Atkins in advising Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in his libel claim against Regus Group. He has also acted for Arcelor Mittal, Lloyds Pharmacy and the London Stock Exchange on corporate matters with reputation implications.
Chris' work on commercial disputes at Schillings has covered a diverse range of issues from advising a rights owner on a contentious IP and royalty dispute with a well-known High Street retailer, working on a judicial review of banking legislation through to advising a blue chip company on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in relation to an overseas subsidiary. During his training at Schillings Chris spent three months on secondment with Jamie Oliver's group of companies dealing with commercial matters.
