Rod Christie-Miller is the Firm's Chief Executive and a litigator specialising in safeguarding the reputations of corporations, brands and public figures, from blue-chip companies and their directors or owners to Hollywood film stars to Premiership football managers. Rod is an expert in using the law on defamation, privacy and breach of confidence to protect clients facing attacks in newspapers, broadcasts, online or by their competitors.
“Companies who find their reputations under attack in the media turn to Schillings,” he says. “We have the legal expertise and experience to step in to protect a client’s reputation. Our track-record in reputation management in the UK is second to none.”
He has represented national business figures as well professional partnerships, financial institutions and FTSE listed corporates in some of Britain’s most high-profile libel and privacy cases. Rod acted for City stockbrokers Collins Stewart in a two-and-a-half year libel dispute with the Financial Times which resulted in the newspaper publishing a front-page apology, paying £300,000 in damages and legal costs to Collins Stewart. He also acted for the former BP Chief Executive Lord Browne of Madingley in his action against the Mail on Sunday. Most recently Rod acted for Andrew Brown, the Prime Minister’s brother, obtaining an apology, costs and a contribution to the Jennifer Brown Research Fund (a charity set up in memory of Andrew’s niece) from Scotland on Sunday concerning their reporting on MP's expenses.
Rod also acts for a number of household name entertainers, musicians and sports stars from Madonna to Harry Redknapp in litigation and reputation protection matters.
Whilst many clients are based in the UK, much of Rod’s work is international in nature and often incorporates the laws of several different jurisdictions at the same time. He has acted for business and political figures from all continents, and countries as diverse as Iceland, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Argentina and Malaysia as well as most European nations, when their reputations are under threat. Often these threats come from the UK media, but Rod is also increasingly instructed in relation to reputational threats emanating from non-media sources such as malicious insiders and business or political rivals.
